Planetary Scientist: Lunar and Legacy Missions Join to apply for the Planetary Scientist: Lunar and Legacy Missions role at Telespazio An experienced planetary scientist is required to join the support archive scientists’ team on‑site at ESA‑ESAC (Spain) to provide support to ESA’s Planetary Science Archive (PSA). Responsibilities / Duties: Data curation from legacy missions (e.g., Venus Express, Rosetta, Giotto) and support for ESA lunar exploration programme instruments (Chang'e 6/NILS, PROSPECT, LUPEX). Technical and scientific validation of converted or newly delivered data and input to enhance PSA and the user community (e.g., develop scripts for easier data discovery). Support instrument teams in delivering data in compliant PDS4 format following PSA standards and conventions. Participate in the archive scientists team at ESAC, setting general requirements and testing, with a 20 % allocation for research. Attend and contribute to at least one science conference per year (e.g., EPSC) and support ESA booth and tutorials; outreach activities encouraged. Qualifications / Experience: PhD or Master’s degree in Planetary Science or equivalent. Essential Skills: Background in one or more planetary science areas. Familiarity with planetary data standards. Excellent organisational skills; experience in organising a project or team. Good communication skills. Coding experience, ideally in Python. Desirable Skills: Experience working on lunar missions. Experience with Jupyter notebooks. Familiarity with XML, especially PDS4 implementation. Experience with JIRA and Confluence. Ability to travel to meetings; mainly in Europe, with potential trips to India and Japan for LUPEX. Qualities: Good interpersonal and communication skills. Pro‑active attitude to problem solving and customer focus. Comfortable in an international working environment. Fluent in written and spoken English.
