Data Center Operations Manager (Night Shift) Job ID: | Amazon Web Services, Inc. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, supporting data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to keep the cloud running. The role ensures overall availability and reliability of data center operations and involves leading teams in hardware and network diagnostics, physical repair, and on‑call rotation. Effective May 15, 2017, logical access to the AWS GovCloud region will be restricted to Amazon employees who are U.S. citizens. (GovCloud may NOT be accessed from outside of the United States) This is a night shift position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 pm–5:00 am, and includes periodic on‑call manager responsibilities outside of standard working hours. Key Responsibilities Prioritize and assign trouble tickets to data center technicians and operators. Manage the performance of a diverse team(s) of data center operation professionals across different locations. Develop and maintain career paths for employees and update internal tools. Recruit, train, and staff data technicians to ensure appropriate staffing levels. Oversee day‑to‑day data center operations, including queue management, 24/7 shift arrangement, and hardware logistics. Act as the subject‑matter expert across all aspects of data center operations. Ensure all operational KPIs and metrics are measured and met. Lead improvements in team processes, technology innovation, and automation. Manage large‑scale events (outages) and act as the call leader. Improve workflows and throughput for data center operations. Recommend, document, and oversee policies and procedures to meet industry best practices and required SLAs. Maintain the on‑call schedule, coordinating absences and vacations. Drive continuous improvement of the quality and quantity of services and customer experience. Basic Qualifications A Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of professional or military experience in an IT related field. 2+ years of experience managing people in a technical environment. 2+ years of experience with networking or computer hardware. Preferred Qualifications In-depth knowledge of Linux systems administration, networking, and cabling best practices. In-depth hardware architecture knowledge and troubleshooting experience. Experience with system management tools and client/server environments. Technical writing experience and prior project management experience. Compensation Base pay ranges from $70,700/year in the lowest geographic market to $158,000/year in the highest market.
