Purchasing Specialist for the Finance Area Share Context The Pasqual Maragall Foundation (FPM) was established in 2008 with the mission of promoting and developing cutting‑edge biomedical research. The Foundation is fully committed to making a decisive contribution to finding global solutions to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, as well as raising public awareness so that scientific support for these challenges receives the priority it deserves. The Foundation's research is carried out through the Barcelonaηta Brain Research Center (BBRC), a research center of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation established in 2012 with the participation of Pompeu Fabra University and the "la Caixa" Foundation. The Pasqual Maragall Foundation's vision is to achieve "A Future Without Alzheimer’s," within a context of active and healthy aging, associated with positive experiences and free from problems and cognitive decline. To this end, BBRC's research focuses on the primary and secondary prevention of Alzheimer's disease, made possible by the participation of thousands of volunteers who contribute to scientific studies aimed at reducing the number of people affected in the near future. The Pasqual Maragall Foundation is a private, non‑profit organization. Its financial resources come from philanthropic donations from organizations and companies, as well as from a broad network of over 100,000 members who contribute to funding research. The center's scientific staff also obtain competitive grants and subsidies, primarily from European funds and international foundations. The Pasqual Maragall Foundation is a young, well‑established, and growing organization that, together with the BBRC, employs more than 250 professionals. The scientific team comprises researchers and specialists in medicine, biology, psychology, nursing, and other fields. The Foundation also has cross‑functional departments such as Infrastructure, Information Systems, Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, Communications, and Fundraising. All of this takes place in a dynamic environment where ongoing challenges are a daily reality. Position Description The Pasqual Maragall Foundation is seeking a Purchasing Specialist whose primary mission will be to ensure an efficient and transparent purchasing process aligned with the needs of both the Pasqual Maragall Foundation and the Barcelonaβeta Brain Research Center. Responsibilities will include guaranteeing the quality, timeliness, and optimization of resources allocated to the scientific and operational activities of both organizations. The current combined purchasing volume amounts to €13 million annually. The successful candidate will report to the Finance Director and will receive administrative support. Main responsibilities: Purchasing and Procurement Responsible for managing the purchases and supplies necessary for the operation of the FPM and the BBRC (hereinafter, the "organization"): Plan, execute and supervise the purchases and supplies necessary for the organization's activity. Ensure the internal process of order creation and approval and centralize their submission to suppliers. Evaluate stock levels and determine optimal levels according to the organization's strategy. Schedule and optimize delivery calendars aligned with operational activity. Negotiate terms with suppliers: deadlines, prices and purchase conditions. Select and approve new suppliers: analyze offers, evaluate potential collaborators and suitability according to quality and cost criteria. Maintain strong relationships with key suppliers. Explore alternative purchasing options, analyze market trends, and identify new opportunities. Ensure compliance with deadlines and required quality levels. Manage incidents and process complaints when agreed standards are not met. Coordination and Advice Coordinate the purchasing and supply needs of the different areas and advise on decision‑making. Maintain a cross‑cutting vision that allows for the creation of synergies between areas, both in processes and costs. Monitor stocks and warehouses with a global perspective. Coordinate with relevant departments, for example: Post‑award Financial Management for purchases linked to competitive financing. Legal Department when contract formalization is required. Coordinate with the Accounting Department the analytical allocation of purchases. Prepare the necessary purchase files for the financial justifications of competitive projects. Analyze the need for strategic outsourcing. Identify technologies that allow for the optimization of purchasing processes. Procedures Responsible for developing purchasing policies and incorporating continuous improvement in the area. Standardize, update and monitor compliance with Purchasing and Procurement procedures. Ensure transparency in processes and detect potential conflicts of interest. Monitor continuous improvement systems related to cost reduction, streamlining of procedures, and optimization of purchases. Generate and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs): average purchase time, savings generated, process compliance, incidents resolved, supplier reliability. Integration with the Finance Area Participate in cross‑cutting projects and initiatives led by the Finance area. Qualifications and Experience Higher university education, preferably in Business Administration, Business Sciences or Engineering. Minimum of 5 years' experience in a purchasing area. Experience in healthcare organizations, research centers, or similar environments is a plus. Excellent oral and written communication skills in Catalan, Spanish and English. Office tools: Navision or similar ERP (advanced level), Excel (advanced level), Microsoft Office Suite (advanced level) Languages: fluent in Catalan, Spanish and English. Personal skills Teamwork and collaboration. Organization and planning. Ability to adapt to tasks of varying complexity. Excellent interpersonal skills. Initiative and proactivity.
