System Development Engineer I, Intelligent Cloud Hosting

Amazon’s Intelligent Cloud Hosting (ICON) Team is looking for a System Development Engineer to join our team in San José, Costa Rica. We host Amazon’s websites, including all global marketplaces, partner portals, and consumer experiences such as Kindle, Alexa, Amazon Video, Mobile Application, Physical Stores, Luna, and more. We deliver the HTML that delights customers while ensuring error‑free processing of payments, taxes, contracts, returns, inventory, notifications, and brand‑new experiences. In short, we perform cloud infrastructure management at the biggest scale in the known universe and pride ourselves on operational quality, security, cost reduction, and availability. We do almost everything in Linux and value contributors who have tweaked their favorite distro to run it just right. We need a solid grasp of networking fundamentals, including load balancers, switches, and routers. We require the ability to design, implement, maintain, and deploy components that solve problems in a complex ecosystem, often using Python or Java. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential to interact with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. A passion for problem solving that aligns with debugging and troubleshooting skills. Self‑motivation, attention to detail, and follow‑through on projects are expected. About the team: We own connecting Amazon worldwide websites and other consumer experiences such as Kindle, Amazon Video, and Alexa to the internet, ensuring the highest level of availability, security, and privacy. We abstract, centralize, and optimize infrastructure management for 120+ Tier‑1 services on behalf of teams in the Worldwide Consumer org, operating the routing layer built on AWS technology that delivers low‑latency traffic and protects services against malicious bots and DDoS attacks. Basic Qualifications 1+ years of DevOps or SysOps in a large‑scale software development environment 1+ years of systems development experience Knowledge of Linux fundamentals Knowledge of at least one modern programming language such as C, C++, Java, or Perl Experience with networking fundamentals including load balancers, switches, routers, etc. Experience communicating technical details verbally and in writing Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline/experience Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of and proficiency in Python scripting Knowledge of best practices for software deployment Experience with infrastructure management Experience with eCommerce retail website(s) Detail‑oriented, passionate, and able to deliver results Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability or other legally protected status. #J-18808-Ljbffr
