We invite applications for the role of Predoctoral Researcher at the Molecular Bionics Research Group within the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC). The successful candidate will work in the Molecular Bionics Group, based in Barcelona, Spain. Overview The position focuses on optimizing, characterizing, and studying the role of low‑density lipoprotein receptor‑related proteins (LRP1, LRP8) and their interaction with the cell glycocalyx in modulating transport across the blood‑brain barrier. The work integrates chemistry, physics, and cell‑ and molecular biology to design and characterize bionic units that mimic specific biological functions. Responsibilities Protein expression and structural analysis using liquid‑phase transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Cell culture of rodent and human cell lines and in‑vitro blood‑brain barrier modelling. Advanced imaging techniques to track macromolecular transport. Perform molecular biology and cell characterization techniques, including RT‑PCR, western blot, immunofluorescence, and flow cytometry. Correlate live‑cell kinetics and cellular trafficking with physical models. Collect, analyze, and integrate data into structural and functional models. Qualifications Essential Degree (equivalent to MSc) in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedicine, Bio‑Physics, Bioengineering, or a directly related discipline. Strong communication, teamwork, proactivity, commitment, integrity, time‑management, critical and analytical thinking, precision, and focus. Advanced written and oral English. Advantageous Prior experience in protein expression and purification. Experience in structural characterization using electron microscopy. Experience in cell culture. Experience in data analysis and scientific research. Benefits and Working Conditions Position: 1 spot available. Start date: 1 March. Full‑time, 40 hours per week.
