Director, Counsel, Commercial

Scopely is seeking a highly experienced, pragmatic, and business-minded Counsel, Commercial to join our legal team in Barcelona. This role will serve as a senior legal lead for commercial matters across EMEA, operating with a high degree of independence while partnering closely with cross-functional stakeholders and collaborating with global Legal teammates. This is a senior individual-contributor role for a lawyer who thrives in fast-moving environments, exercises strong judgment, and approaches legal work as a strategic business partner aligned with Scopely's global strategy. What You Will Do Commercial Contracting & Advisory Serve as the lead attorney for a broad range of commercial matters supporting Scopely's Barcelona-based teams and initiatives, as well as various games in Scopely's portfolio.Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a wide variety of agreements, including:AI, automation, and legal technology agreements, including software licensing and service addenda Adtech and marketing technology agreements Marketing, influencer, sponsorship, and co-marketing agreementsSaaS and software licensing agreementsVendor and procurement agreementsData Processing Agreements (DPAs) and data-related commercial termsConfidentiality agreements and information-sharing arrangementsAdditional commercial arrangements common to the gaming, technology, and digital media ecosystem (e.g., analytics providers, platform partnerships, promotional campaigns, event-related agreements) Act as the primary legal advisor to Scopely's in-house creative agency, leading legal support for creative and marketing contracting, including MSAs, SOWs, rate cards, production, vendor, influencer, and IP/usage-rights agreementsPartner closely with Marketing, Sales, Product, Procurement, Finance, and Business Operations teams to structure deals that balance speed, risk, and business objectivesAct as a trusted advisor by engaging early with stakeholders, understanding business goals, and offering creative, compliant solutions Identify legal and reputational risks and clearly communicate tradeoffs, enabling stakeholders to make informed decisions Contribute to the development of and utilize playbooks, templates, checklists, and drafting guidelines to drive efficiency, consistency, and predictable risk management Technology, AI & Automation Actively leverage legal technology, AI tools, and automation to improve contract review, drafting, issue-spotting, and turnaround timeBring hands-on experience using AI-powered legal tools in day-to-day workflows (e.g., contract analysis, redlining, clause comparison, risk identification)Partner with Legal Operations and global Legal teammates to test, adopt, and refine tools that scale legal support in a growing organizationDemonstrate curiosity and judgment around emerging legal AI capabilities, understanding both their benefits and limitations in a regulated, risk-sensitive environment Cross-Functional Legal Collaboration Work closely with colleagues across Legal, including Privacy, Product, Employment, and Corporate, to ensure alignment on risk, strategy, and executionCollaborate on matters involving in-game assets, IP partnerships, marketing initiatives, and consumer-facing features.Coordinate with outside counsel where appropriate, while maintaining ownership and accountability for outcomes What You Will Need Fluent in Spanish and English Law degree from an accredited institution and qualification to practice law in Spain or another EU jurisdiction and/or in-house qualification (additional qualifications a plus)5–8+ years of legal experience, with a strong focus on complex commercial transactionsExperience in technology, gaming, digital media, adtech, or SaaS-driven businesses preferredProven ability to operate independently as a senior legal advisor, owning matters end-to-end with minimal oversightStrong commercial judgment and the ability to translate legal concepts into practical business guidanceExperience working closely with marketing, product, sales, and procurement teams in fast-paced environmentsDemonstrated, hands-on experience using AI tools, automation, or legal technology in legal workflowsExcellent communication skills, with the confidence to advise senior stakeholders and influence outcomesComfort working in a global organization across time zones and cultures This is a Barcelona based role, with a hybrid working model.
