We are building the backbone of the future legal ecosystem.We’re now looking for a backend-focused Product Engineer to help design and scale the core systems that will power this ecosystem globally — systems that will define how elite legal work is created, distributed, and trusted in the next decade.Your impact You’ll own and evolve the systems that sit at the heart of Ambar:Admissions and expert verificationEndorsements, referrals, and reputation signalsOpportunity matching and project workflowsMemberships, billing, and incentivesData foundations that power decision‑making and future AI capabilitiesThis is not a ticket‑taking role.You’ll help decide what we build, why it matters, and how it should scale , translating ambiguous user problems into clean, robust systems. Sometimes that means designing something new. Other times it means choosing the right existing tool and integrating it well.Good judgment matters more than clever code.What you bring Design and build core backend services that power Ambar’s marketplace and communityModel complex domains (lawyers, projects, endorsements, referrals, memberships) in a clean, scalable wayOwn APIs and contracts used by the frontend and internal toolsBuild and maintain reliable integrations (e.g. Stripe, CRM, email systems, external services)Ensure data quality, consistency, and observability across critical flowsWork closely with product, users, and founders to turn fuzzy problems into solid systemsWrite maintainable, well‑tested code with a strong focus on correctness and clarityWhat you’ll need You don’t need to tick every box — but most of these should feel familiar.Experience building and owning production backend systems in product-driven teamsStrong fundamentals in backend engineering (Python or similar, APIs, data modeling)Comfort working with relational data and real-world workflows (PostgreSQL or equivalent)Experience designing systems that other people depend on — and maintaining them over timeProduct judgment: you care about why something is built, not just howA bias for ownership, pragmatism, and high standardsNice to have Experience in marketplaces, SaaS, or community-driven productsExposure to analytics, metrics, or experimentationCuriosity about AI-assisted systems or agentsHow we build Small teams, high trust, full ownershipProduct and engineering work as one — no handoffsWe start from the problem , not the solutionWe ship small, complete slices of value and iterate fastWe use AI as a daily copilot to think, plan, build, test, and documentWe prioritize clarity, quality, and long-term impactWe move fast, but we own what we shipQuality is part of speed, not something added laterWhy Now Be an early product engineer shaping Ambar’s technical backboneWork on real, high-impact problems at the intersection of talent, trust, and technologyDirect influence on product direction, architecture, and future AI initiativesMassive opportunity to grow as the platform scalesWe believe tools should enable great product thinking — not define who can join the team.Our current stack includes:Python for core backend logicFastAPI & Django for APIs and domain-heavy workflowsPostgreSQL for relational data and complex modelingVue.js on the frontendAWS for infrastructure and deploymentsThat said, we don’t require prior experience in every part of this stack.Several engineers on the team have come from different languages, frameworks, or platforms.
