Head of Casualty Underwriting, Spain Join us as the Head of Casualty Underwriting for Spain at Munich Re Specialty – Global Markets (MRS-GM) . Munich Re Specialty was formed as a stand‑alone division in 2023 and drives the expansion of our primary specialty business throughout Europe, starting in Spain. Responsibilities Direct and manage overall technical underwriting for Casualty activities for MRSGM in Spain, ensuring a high level of technical proficiency across all areas. Collaborate with the Head of Underwriting Spain, Product CUOs and Product Heads to develop new product rates, rules and policy forms, and maintain consistency of existing products. Manage the Casualty portfolio in Spain in close collaboration with the Head of Underwriting Spain and Product CUOs, to achieve business mix and performance goals. Maintain and execute Casualty underwriting authority delegation and referral processes in Spain. Monitor insurance market trends and developments in Spain to adjust underwriting policy and strategy appropriately. Coach and lead a high‑performance Casualty underwriting team; contribute to the attraction, recruitment and retention of required talent. Develop and maintain effective relationships with insureds and brokers to strengthen existing trading relationships and secure new business aligned with the Underwriting business plan. Knowledge and Skills Extensive primary insurance underwriting experience Significant years of people management experience University degree and/or relevant professional qualification Demonstrated ability in an executive leadership position, ideally as Head of Casualty or Head of Professional Indemnity underwriting In‑depth knowledge of exposure and experience rating processes Excellent people skills, including stakeholder management Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and commitment to corporate mission Strong negotiation skills Excellent communication (written, verbal and presentation), interpersonal and networking skills across all organizational levels Strategic and forward‑thinking mindset with a proven track‑record of business management, planning and forecasting Fluency in Spanish and English is a must If you are excited about this role but your experience does not align perfectly with everything outlined, or you don’t meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply anyway.
