Senior HPC for Earth Sciences Team Leader (RE3) We’re looking for an experienced HPC lead to co‑lead the HPC for Earth Sciences team within BSC’s Computational Earth Sciences group. You will manage 16 research engineers and scientists and ensure scalable, efficient performance of Earth observation models. About BSC The Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC‑CNS) hosts MareNostrum, a world‑class HPC platform, and operates under EuroHPC JU. It combines HPC service provision with R&D in life, earth and engineering sciences. Key Duties Coordinate and supervise a team of 16 researchers. Plan, execute and deliver engineering and research projects, assigning tasks and prioritising deliverables. Identify sustainability opportunities for the team and the department’s models and tools. Contribute to the development strategy of the department’s tools, enhancing visibility and impact. Lead the HPC for Earth Sciences team, manage tasks, deliverables and supervise members. Report to the Head of the Computational Earth Sciences Group. Requirements Education – Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, physical engineering, mathematics, physics or a closely related field; PhD appreciated. Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience – Experience in Earth science research/focus on HPC performance analysis and development; proven team leadership; excellent communication skills. Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience – Ability to manage large collaborative projects and supervise PhD/Master students; proficiency in FORTRAN, C/C++; experience in UNIX/Linux, bash, Python; experience in climate or ocean modelling; familiarity with MPI, OpenMP, profiling tools (e.g., Intel VTune); deploying large codes on HPC systems. Competences – Leadership, ability to inspire and motivate a team, conflict resolution, organisational skills, strategic thinking, and problem‑solving. Proficient in English; experience in technical reports and publications appreciated. Conditions Location: BSC, Earth Sciences Department. Full‑time contract (37.5 h/week) with flexible hours, extensive training, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, relocation support. Open‑ended contract aligned with project budget. Holidays: 22 days + 6 personal days + 24 th and 31 st December as per collective agreement. Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience. Start date: ASAP.
