The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science under one roof, and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries.

Context And Mission

The Language Technologies Unit at BSC has consolidated experience in several NLP areas, such as massive language model building, biomedical text mining, machine translation, and unsupervised learning for under-resourced languages and domains. The LT Unit is looking for a Machine Learning engineer with experience in Speech Technologies, specifically in Deep Learning and model building for tasks such as speech recognition, synthesis, and translation.


Key Duties

  • Implement algorithms for audiovisual speech recognition
  • Participate in internal group meetings and other scientific discussions.
  • Preparation and presentation of scientific articles.
  • Collaborate in the preparation and presentation of scientific projects.
  • Collaborate with the members of the group in the generation and evaluation of resources in Catalan.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor courses in computational linguistics.
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience:
    • Programming skills.
    • Ability to access and evaluate scientific literature.
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience:
    • Native competence in Catalan.
    • Good knowledge of Spanish.
    • Fluency in spoken and written English.
    • Strong interest in NLP.
  • Competences:
    • Good communication and presentation skills.
    • Ability to work both independently and within a team.

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department.
  • We offer a part-time contract (20h/week), a good working environment, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures.
  • Duration: linked to the educational agreement.
  • Salary: competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  • Starting date: 01/12/2024.
