Sonnedix Madrid, Community of Madrid, SpainHead of Short Term MarketsJoin to apply for the Head of Short Term Markets role at SonnedixThe RoleWe are looking for a Head of Short-Term Markets to join our Commercial function and lead the development and operation of our short-term market activities across Southern Europe. Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, the successful candidate is responsible for establishing and managing a 24/7 Dispatch Centre covering Spain, Portugal, and Italy, including defining operating procedures, system requirements, and team structures. You will also own and continuously enhance the route-to-market framework with market agents and aggregators, ensuring strong performance, clear governance, and alignment with commercial objectives. Working closely with the Market Strategy team, you will help shape and implement bidding strategies across day‑ahead, intraday, and balancing markets, translating commercial strategy into effective real‑time execution. The role will define and monitor key performance indicators, embed robust processes and reporting, and use data‑driven insight to improve market outcomes. You will also lead the implementation of regulatory changes into systems and procedures, ensuring the organisation can respond quickly and effectively to evolving market rules while maximising value from solar PV and battery energy storage assets. This is a senior role for someone who combines technical expertise with a collaborative, inclusive leadership approach and a focus on building resilient, scalable capabilities.Desirable Skills & ExperienceSubstantial experience in short‑term electricity markets, including operating or leading dispatch, trading, or real‑time market activities within a 24/7 or near real‑time environment, with exposure to flexible assets such as battery energy storage and solar PV.In‑depth understanding of European power market design and regulation, with direct experience in the Spanish market and working knowledge of Portugal and Italy, including practical implementation of regulatory change.Demonstrated capability in developing and executing bidding and dispatch strategies across day‑ahead, intraday, and balancing markets, supported by forecasting, optimisation, and performance analysis.Proven people leadership experience, including building and developing diverse teams, setting clear ways of working, and creating an inclusive, supportive environment where individuals can perform at their best.Fluency in Spanish and English, with the ability to communicate effectively across international and cross‑functional teams; Portuguese or Italian language skills are a strong advantage.We use English as our business language, please submit your CV in English.At Sonnedix, we’re building a future‑ready team with AI literacy, the ability to leverage digital and AI tools to improve efficiency, innovation and productivity across all roles.Studies show that many qualified candidates hesitate to apply unless they meet every requirement.
