Universidad de Deusto - Investigación Job description The work will be developed within the framework of the European project PRECIOUS (Horizon Europe), which is focused on analysing the sustainability of food waste prevention actions with a life cycle perspective.  Food loss and waste (FLW) is a significant issue that is deeply ingrained in cultural practices. This problem has been exacerbated by societal norms that promote excessive consumption and disposal, largely due to the widespread belief that food is affordable. Historically, the availability and abundance of food resources have contributed to a wasteful culture, where items are discarded without consideration of their intrinsic value or the broader consequences of waste. Additionally, the most common approach to addressing FLW has been microeconomic, focusing on individual actions and small-scale interventions within local ecosystems. While these local initiatives may yield positive results and stem from good intentions, they often lack a systemic perspective necessary to effect meaningful change on a global scale. Solutions developed solely within specific local contexts may not adequately address the comprehensive challenges associated with FLW. The PRECIOUS project aims to shift the conversation surrounding FLW by adopting a holistic and multidimensional approach. This will involve applying multidisciplinary insights, pursuing methodological research developments, and engaging stakeholders at multiple levels. As part of the PRECIOUS project, the candidate will be responsible for the development of a model that integrates system dynamics and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) to model the environmental, social, and economic impact of food waste prevention actions over time.
