Your mission As an Engineering Lead, you will be a hands‑on individual contributor as a Senior / Principal software engineer, provide both technical and people leadership for Engineering teams. You will partner with Architects, fellow engineers and leads to shape the technology roadmap, deliver on product milestones, and mentor the engineering team to cultivate a culture of excellence in software delivery. In addition to shaping the vision and direction, you’ll also be a hands‑on contributor of day‑to‑day game building, investigating new technologies, creating prototypes, and ensuring the engineering organization meets (and exceeds) high technical standards. What you will do Technical Direction & Roadmap Define the technical direction of solutions delivered by your Engineering teams. Partner with the Product and Delivery to develop and align the technology roadmap with business objectives. Collaborate with Architecture teams to understand and implement company‑wide architectural strategies, guidelines and implementation Technical Validation & Feasibility Perform technical validation of planned solutions, ensuring feasibility and alignment with long‑term product strategy. Drive high‑level estimation and feasibility investigations to help the business prioritize effectively. Support Product Owners and Product Managers in discussions with Commercial teams and clients, with particular focus on technical considerations. Operational Excellence Establish fit‑for‑purpose Platform engineering, observability principles and implementation Drive zero downtime principles and mechanisms in releases and adherence of SLAs for incident management Cross‑Functional Collaboration Work closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders. Communicate technical constraints, trade‑offs, and opportunities in business terms. Align engineering efforts with product and company’s OKRs. Represent the engineering team in planning, roadmap, and leadership discussions. High standards & Mentorship Provide continuous support, coaching, and mentorship to the Engineering teams, ensuring they have clear technical guidance. Set high (and continuously rising) standards for Software Engineers in terms of technical proficiency, code quality, and professional growth. Act as a gatekeeper to ensure squads meet necessary standards (security, performance, clean code, reusability, code quality, etc.). Assist in making them self‑organised so they can self‑navigate and get the right help to unblock themselves as required. Hands‑On Technical Contributions Day to day game building. Stay “one step ahead” by evaluating and experimenting with emerging technologies, developing Proofs of Concept (POCs), prototypes, and running technical spikes. This also includes contributing to ideas and PoCs on the current tech stack. Contribute to high quality code, code reviews, architectural reviews, and complex debugging or performance optimization tasks as necessary. Identify, define, and prioritize technical or architectural initiatives to continuously improve products (performance, stability, security, maintainability, scalability, etc.). Best Practices & Continuous Improvement Champion best practices throughout the Development Lifecycle (e.g., TDD, CI / CD, observability, DevOps culture). Champion Zero defect and Zero downtime mindset, business value driven pragmatism Ensure important aspects of the development process (documentation, testing, peer reviews) are consistently applied to produce high-quality, maintainable software. Drive an agile, iterative culture, fostering close collaboration between technical and business stakeholders. What you will bring Technical Leadership & Proficiency Capability of leading technical teams in a Senior Software Engineering or Technical Lead capacity. A Senior software engineer with strong people leadership skills will be considered for this role too. Strong knowledge in one or more core programming languages: Java or Javascript (Angular, NodeJS, React). Confidence using cloud platforms: AWS and GCP and associated core services. Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools: Terraform, AWS and containerization / orchestration technologies: Docker, Kubernetes. Knowledge about DB technologies like Cassandra and PostgreSQL. Solid understanding of microservices architecture and best practices for distributed systems. Architecture & Solution Design Capability of designing, documenting, and implementing robust technical solutions. Ability to work in a multifaceted role encompassing Architecture, Development, Business Analysis, and technical negotiations with customers. Ability to build and improve CI / CD pipelines to ensure rapid and reliable software delivery. People & Stakeholder Management Ability to mentor and coach engineers to reach their full potential. Ability to communicate, negotiate, and influence both business and engineering stakeholders, adapting communication styles as needed. Effective prioritization and collaboration skills, including the ability to respond to shifting business needs or product objectives under pressure. A strong mindset for sharing knowledge, continuous learning, and driving innovation within the team.
