The opportunity: We have an exciting opportunity for a Underwriter Liability to generate and underwrite new business for the Markel team, based in our Barcelona office. You will engage with brokers and clients in the Catalonia, Aragón, Valencia & Balearics regions. What you’ll be doing: Underwriting and growing the Liability book of business profitably, within the dedicated region Establishing, developing, and expanding broker and customer relationships Extending and consolidating our footprint as a recognized insurance partner by assessing, proposing, and negotiating insurance conditions for large and midsize projects, with a primary focus on Liability Working closely with our Madrid team regarding clients and brokers Assessing risks, coverage, terms, and conditions, driving related underwriting processes Working closely with the General Manager of the Barcelona office and the Liability department, to ensure development and profitability of the portfolio Developing the Underwriting strategy, guidelines, standards, processes and tools Managing the referral business Interacting with the other functions (Business Development, Technical Underwriting, Claims) across the business Championing continuous improvements and continually working with the team to improve end to end process and data accuracy Attending regular broker and client meetings and travel to represent Markel as required Our must-haves: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity and profitability. Validated experience in an Underwriting function and an understanding of the regional insurance market Effective interpersonal skills as you collaborate with local and partners. Spain and Europe Strong partnership skills for developing strategic planning to achieve team and company ambitions.
