Functional Description The Senior Network Security Engineer is responsible for supervising network security systems and related infrastructure, and recommending best security practices, ensuring the components are running the optimal security configuration according to Security Policies. This includes overseeing the installation and configuration of the networking systems, as well as continuous monitoring to ensure optimal performance and protection.  The role involves identifying security system issues proactively on a regular basis looking for the better balance between security and business operations, guiding operational procedures, and ensuring the networking devices are properly protected. The engineer ensures the networking systems are properly configured from the security point of view and address and organize regular assessments, ensuring the network devices are following the security recommendation. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding the organization’s network environment, maintaining compliance with security standards/policies and acting as an essential point-of-contact between Networks and Security teams. In this position your key Deliverables will be: Serve as the primary liaison between the Networks and Security teams assessing to the Security Architects. Oversees and manages the security configuration of the organization’s network security platforms, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, WAF, VPNs, and access control systems. Verify security levels and configuration of critical network components to ensure stability and performance. Monitors the performance, capacity, and health of security infrastructure to ensure continuous availability and protection. Ensures that security policies, standards, and procedures are properly implemented, enforced, and continuously improved. Evaluates, recommends, and deploys new security technologies (hardware, software, and services) to support Business Unit requirements. Develops and maintains operational plans for security infrastructure across data centres and hybrid environments (on-premise and cloud). Provides advanced technical support for security platforms, including root cause analysis, troubleshooting of complex issues, and implementation of corrective actions. Leads security related infrastructure projects where networking plays a crucial aspect, including upgrades, migrations, and architecture enhancements. Automates operational tasks through scripting to improve efficiency and reduce manual errors. Core Competencies. Oversees day to day operational activities within the teams, ensuring service continuity and being accountable for team performance and outcomes. Continues to expand and refine core professional qualifications, staying current with emerging technologies, security trends, and industry best practices. May coordinate or supervise the activities of team members, providing guidance, mentoring, and support to ensure effective execution of tasks and projects. Technical Expertise Has developed specialist expertise across multiple network security technologies, including NGFW, SWG, Azure cloud security, and advanced threat prevention systems. Applies deep technical knowledge to both standard operational tasks and highly complex engineering activities, ensuring secure, stable, and scalable network environments. Demonstrates hands-on proficiency with major security platforms such as Cisco Firepower, Meraki, ISE and ACI , Palo Alto Networks , Check Point, F5 and Fortinet firewalls. Possesses strong experience with Cisco routing and switching , including configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting of enterprise grade network infrastructures. Skilled in cloud-based security solutions, including Zscaler and Netskope , with the ability to integrate and manage secure access, SWG, CASB, and ZTNA architectures. Desirable certifications in:  Cisco (Preferred CCNP – CCIE) Palo Alto Fortinet F5 Azure AZ-700 Client / Business Orientation Client Response Interprets client and stakeholder needs accurately, assessing full technical and operational requirements. Identifies effective solutions for both standard and nonstandard security related requests, ensuring alignment with business expectations and service levels. Provides clear guidance and expert recommendations to clients and colleagues translating complex technical issues into actionable business friendly insights Business Understanding Understands internal and external business drivers, industry trends, and best practices within the network security discipline. Applies this understanding to optimize security operations, support strategic initiatives, and ensure alignment with organizational goals. Anticipates potential business impacts of security decisions and proactively adjusts approaches to minimize risk and maximize value. Cost & Profitability Works to control costs associated with network security operations, tools, and infrastructure. Monitors resource usage and take action to optimize efficiency within the work area, ensuring cost-effective delivery of services. Identifies opportunities to streamline processes, reduce operational overhead, and improve return on investment for security technologies Creating & Delivering Solutions Problem Solving Identifies key issues, patterns, and root causes in complex network security situations, applying analytical thinking to understand both technical and operational impacts. Takes a broad, strategic perspective when evaluating problems, considering dependencies across infrastructure, applications, and business processes. Develops innovative, non‑standard solutions to address advanced security challenges, balancing risk, performance, and business requirements. Anticipates potential obstacles and proactively implements preventive measures to reduce operational and security risks. Planning & Organising Maintains structured and efficient work processes by coordinating workflow, task allocation, and quality standards within the team. Makes decisions that primarily impact the immediate work group or team, with potential influence on broader departmental objectives and service outcomes. Manages personal and team time effectively to meet agreed targets, ensuring timely delivery of operational tasks, projects, and incident resolutions. Develops short and medium-term plans for network security activities, including forecasting resource needs, scheduling maintenance windows, and planning capacity improvements.
