AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

We are building some of the largest and most complex distributed systems in the world, and we need adaptable people to help us implement and operate them.

The AWS Region Services team is seeking a Principal Systems Development Engineer to lead our Services team. You’ll join a diverse team of applied scientists, software engineers, and security experts. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for security and safety while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Lead the development, maintenance and growth of our services platforms.
  2. Work with a cross-functional team consisting of Software Development Engineers focused on building new service and automation capabilities.
  3. Elevate the AWS Services delivery in region through effective leadership and partnerships within Infrastructure Security.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. 5+ years of engineering team management experience
  2. 10+ years of engineering experience
  3. 10+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services experience
  4. Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle
  5. Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Experience managing a team of high caliber Software Engineers developing complex, world class, scalable software systems
  2. Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership
  3. Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers
