You’ll join a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles, collaborating to deliver safety, security, and scalable capacity at the lowest possible cost.Amazon is looking for an energetic, detail-oriented individual to join our Data Center Engineering Operations Team in the Greater Milan Area. This team maintains the data center’s critical physical infrastructure to ensure 100% availability of the data center’s MEP and first-class customer service to internal teams.The Data Center Chief Engineer (CE) is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center operates at peak efficiency. This includes planned preventative maintenance, daily corrective work, and emergency response. The CE acts as an expert technical resource for onsite Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and third-party vendors, serving as the focal point for all facility operations within owned and operated data centers.The CE will manage large-scale projects and provide support for new region initiatives from conception to completion. Projects involve independent work and collaboration with engineering, automation, procurement, and finance teams in local and global settings. The CE will create and track milestones, obtain and manage quotes, and document outcomes for replication at other facilities. Projects aim to drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs.The CE directs, trains, and supports EOTs in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and operations, including site/equipment-specific training exercises. Equipment includes, but is not limited to, stand-by diesel generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.The role is based in the Greater Milan area with flexibility to travel within the EMEA region if required.Key job responsibilitiesOversee day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centersAssist in design and build-out of new facilitiesAct as escalation point for facilities-related issues within the data center region; work OT hours as needed to support site stabilityPerform root cause analysis of equipment failuresTroubleshoot and report facility and data center-level events within internal SLACreate and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teamsProvide training and guidance to EOTs; assist in recruiting effortsEnsure safety procedures are adhered to by vendor and Amazon staffUtilize internal Change Management Systems to manage building workflowsMV/LV isolation to facilitate MV maintenanceProvide metric availability reporting on a weekly basisCompetencies and behaviorsAbility to solve problems at root and understand broader contextAptitude for troubleshooting and problem solvingAbility to maintain SLAs through proactive issue detection and immediate responseExperience reading SLDs and control schematicsAbility to follow support procedures, system documentation, and issue tracking entriesGood judgment and decision-making instinctsAbility to prioritize in a complex, fast-paced environmentAbility to take ownership of technical issues from customersPhysical requirementsWork at heights and from laddersPerform physical tasksWork in a noisy environment with ear protectionTo applyPlease submit a detailed copy of your CV in English.Working locationData centers are located in remote areas outside Milan; access via public transport may be limited.
