Introduction to the vacant position:The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is seeking to hire a Coordinator for the Microscopy Facility within its Core Facilities unit. The role involves managing current microscope equipment, incorporating advanced optical microscopy techniques, supervising the facility’s technical team, and providing daily services and support to users of optical microscopy. The position reports to the Head of Core Facilities.Main tasks and responsibilities:Ensure the proper functioning of the microscopy service to guarantee high‑quality support.Provide scientific and technical coordination of the microscopy service technician’s work.Coordinate and implement the preventive and corrective maintenance plan for the equipment.Operate optical microscopes (fluorescence, confocal, multiphoton, super‑resolution, Brillouin, and in‑vivo imaging) to acquire images using various techniques.Process and analyse images obtained through different microscopy techniques using specialised image analysis software.Provide scientific and technical advice to researchers on sample preparation and use of fluorescent markers.Update and develop sample preparation and characterisation protocols to implement new high‑quality services.Participate in training activities for researchers on the microscopy techniques available in the service.Carry out administrative tasks related to the service.Requirements for candidates:PhD in health sciences, sciences, or engineering.Proven experience in the advanced use and maintenance of optical microscopy equipment.Experience in data and image analysis obtained from various optical microscopy systems using the appropriate software tools.Experience in preparing biological samples for proper characterisation using optical microscopy techniques.Desirable: specific knowledge in the use of fluorescence, confocal, multiphoton, super‑resolution, and in‑vivo optical microscopy equipment, as well as the corresponding software.Valuable: experience in the management and operation of microscopy services.Valuable: experience in team management.Valuable: experience in preparing reports for projects.Knowledge of safety regulations in biology/chemistry laboratories (multidisciplinary).Advanced user of Microsoft Office and image processing software (e.g., ZEN Blue, ImageJ, FIJI, etc.).Proficiency in Catalan and Spanish, both spoken and written.
