Check the video What\ 's like to work in SoftonicThe Position Softonic is looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join our talented Business Intelligence team in Barcelona. In this role, you will play a crucial part in building and maintaining the data infrastructure that empowers our BI Engineers to transform data into actionable insights. Key Responsibilities Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of data engineers, fostering collaboration and setting the technical direction across best practices, architecture, and tooling. Manage and optimize current data ingestion workflows on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and design integrations for new data sources into the data lake. Design and develop scalable, efficient data pipelines and a robust data architecture. Develop, monitor, and maintain GCP infrastructure for data ingestion and processing, with a focus on performance, reliability, and cost optimization. Design, develop and improve DevOps processes for the data lake (e.G., Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, staging environments, deployment strategies, and access control). Work closely with the Head of BI to drive key data projects from inception to completion. Responsibilities include project scoping, solution design, planning, coordinating internal and external teams, and ensuring a successful execution. Ensure data security, governance, and compliance across the platform, maintaining the reliability and integrity of production systems. Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather data requirements and deliver solutions aligned with organisational objectives. Stay up-to-date with the latest data engineering technologies and best practices, and actively share your knowledge to support the growth and development of team members. Minimum experience and qualifications 8+ years of proven experience in a senior or lead data engineering role. Strong programming skills in Python. Proficiency in SQL, BigQuery and a solid understanding of data modelling techniques. Familiarity with dbt for data transformation and modelling. Hands-on experience building data pipelines and managing workflows using orchestration tools such as Airflow (or similar). Familiarity with API integration and various data extraction methods. Understanding of data governance best practices around security, quality, and compliance. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive mindset. Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Nice to have Solid understanding of Google Cloud Platform services, including Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, Cloud Composer, and serverless deployments. Experience working within Agile methodologies. Exposure to machine learning workflows and collaboration with ML teams. Why Softonic?
