Software Engineer - Python - Container Images Apply for the Software Engineer - Python - Container Images role at Canonical . Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, with Ubuntu widely used in enterprise initiatives. We are building a new generation of Ubuntu‑based container images to simplify open‑source application deployment worldwide. In this role, you will build and maintain a portfolio of container images, collaborate with internal and external teams, and implement CI/CD automation around these images. You will also contribute to fast‑moving products like Rocks (OCI images). Location EMEA Responsibilities Build robust, scalable, leading‑edge container images. Work on automated CI/CD processes for building, testing, and publishing container images. Write tools and tests for assessing security compliance and cloud‑native compatibility. Participate in engineering processes through code and architectural review. Contribute to the improvement of Python‑ and Go‑based container‑building tools. Provide technical feedback for the team's decision‑making process. Engage with the open‑source community as a subject‑matter expert. Grow the knowledge base and write documentation. Work in a collaborative, agile and globally distributed environment. Mentor junior team members and help with hiring. Work from home with global travel up to 15% for internal and external events. Qualifications Knowledgeable and passionate about software development. Team player with experience in collaborative development. Experience with CI/CD systems (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Concourse CI). Familiarity with GitOps principles and workflows. Track record of delivering timely, high‑quality software. Experience building container images. Proficiency with at least one container management/orchestration tool (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). Experience with Python. Experience with Linux systems administration and package management. Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical concepts. Clarity in technical and engineering discussions. Belief in open‑source sharing and knowledge sharing. Skills ranging from graduate to mid‑senior Software Engineer. Bachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or similar degree.
