With the integration of Deimos and strategic participation in Hispasat and Hisdesat , we are scaling Europe’s space autonomy and contributing to flagship programs like IRIS², Galileo, EGNOS, and Copernicus .ResponsibilitiesThe Optical Payload Architect will take technical leadership in the definition and delivery of next-generation Earth Observation (EO) payloads.This role is central to the success of our spacecraft missions, ensuring that payloads deliver the required performance while meeting cost, schedule, and risk constraints.The successful candidate will act as the technical authority for optical payloads within the spacecraft manufacturer, defining system-levelRequirementsDefine the end-to-end performance of EO optical payloads (spatial, spectral, radiometric, temporal, geometric).Lead the development of payload concepts and architectures (high-resolution imaging, multispectral, hyperspectral, video, or spectrometers).Own the payload performance budgets (SNR, GSD, MTF, radiometry, straylight, thermal stability) and ensure compliance with mission requirements.Support mission and spacecraft-level trade-offs (orbit, AOCS, power, thermal, data handling, downlink) to optimize payload performance.Subcontractor & Partner ManagementPrepare technical specifications and manage the procurement of payloads from subcontractors.Act as the main technical interface with payload suppliers, monitoring progress, design maturity, risks, and compliance.Lead technical reviews with subcontractors (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, ORR).Ensure delivered payloads integrate smoothly with the spacecraft platform.Systems Engineering & Verification for the optical PLDrive end-to-end modeling and simulation of payload performance (image chain, pointing, jitter, radiometric budgets).Support spacecraft-level integration, verification, and validation activities, including payload-level acceptance and environmental testing.Contribute to in-orbit commissioning and calibration strategy definition.Leadership & CommunicationAct as the subject-matter expert for EO payloads within Indra Deimos.Mentor and guide junior engineers working on payload performance, modeling, and verification.Provide clear technical reporting to project management, customers, and partners.RequirementsMust haveEngineering degree (Master’s or PhD) in Optical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.10+ years of experience in EO optical payloads, with significant involvement in system architecture and performance specification.Proven experience in payload procurement and subcontractor management.Strong knowledge of optical imaging principles, detectors, and calibration, with the ability to evaluate subcontractor designs at the system level.Experience in payload performance modeling and analysis tools (e.g., Zemax, Code V, MATLAB, Python, STK).Familiarity with space mission lifecycles and standards (ECSS, NASA, ISO).Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.What We Offer:Work Your Way: Flexible hours so you can balance life and work effortlessly.Open Culture: Direct communication and a friendly environment where your voice matters.Innovation at Its Core: Be part of groundbreaking projects with global impact.People First: A collaborative team that supports and celebrates your success.Career Acceleration: Continuous feedback and annual reviews to help you grow.Stability You Can Trust: Long-term projects in a leading company with a future vision.Global Reach: Your work will influence major international initiatives.✈️ Mobility Opportunities: Explore projects across Spain and beyond.Lifelong Learning: Access Open University programs and 3,000+ Udemy for Business courses.✨ Your next big opportunity is here.
