The Institute of Materials Science of Seville (ICMS) is a joint centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and University of Seville. It is offering a four-year contract to pursue a doctoral thesis in the field of persistent luminescence materials for the development of efficient light batteries. The thesis will be carried out in collaboration with two of the centre's research groups: To Begin Or Continue Your Research Career A bachelor's degree in Physics or Chemistry and a master's degree in any field related to Nanoscience, Nanotechnology, Physical Chemistry, or Materials Science and Technology. Also known as light batteries, PersLs can store optical energy and emit light long after excitation has ceased, thanks to crystalline defects that act as traps. This phenomenon, which introduces time as a variable in the design of luminescent materials, opens up new application possibilities beyond lighting, such as security, optical data storage, and photocatalysis. The BatLight project, within which this doctoral thesis contract is framed, seeks to overcome these limitations through two strategies: firstly, to understand and model the mechanisms that govern PersL, establishing links between structural and photophysical properties; Specific tasks will be tailored to the candidate's prior training and experience and will include the preparation of materials using PersL, their structural and photophysical characterization, and the modelling of the processes that determine afterglow.
