BESS Sr Project Engineer

Overview ContourGlobal, a KKR company, is an established Independent Power Producer (IPP) focused on developing, acquiring, and operating electricity generation and storage assets across Europe, North and South America, with a presence in Africa and Asia. Responsibilities Project Development and Execution: Responsible for designing and sizing of utility-scale BESS solutions (>10 MW) leading a team of Specialists, ensuring compliance with technical and operational requirements, local laws and safety and environmental rules. Design document management (definition of basic/detail/for construction design documents List with proper schedule to fulfill the general GANTT of Project during the development and Execution phase) Management of the activities during the project development phase (preliminary studies such as Geo, Topo, Hydro,etc) Define the most suitable technical solution for the design and the execution of the BESS plants, optimize configuration by comparing different solutions (layout, main components, etc.). Provide a preliminary capex estimation and GANTT Evaluate hybrid project designs combining BESS with PV and/or wind plants. Interface with and manage external consultants and internal stakeholders to validate engineering deliverables. Management of framework agreements for the activities, studies and designs during the development phase (technical specification definition, support during tender process, etc.). Leading and managing a team of engineering specialists during the development and execution phase. Support the Project Manager with the engineering activities during the execution phase. Manage and coordinate field engineering activities during the execution phase. Provide support during construction, commissioning, and operational readiness review. Technical Due Diligence and Investment Support: Lead the specialist team conducting technical reviews of BESS projects for greenfield and M&A opportunities. Interface and coordinate with other company functions during project development up to Final Investment Decision (FID) Support the definition of business models and commercial offers that integrate energy storage applications. Assist in economic and financial evaluations, including cost structuring, risk assessments, and sensitivity analyses. Evaluate compliance with relevant grid codes and regulatory frameworks (e.g., NFPA 855, IEEE 1547, IEC, RED III, Decree 128/2016) Application and Innovation of Storage Technologies: Apply advanced technical knowledge of battery chemistry (e.g., Li-ion, flow batteries) and control systems to optimize project performance. Explore new technical solutions for battery systems with relevant control system. Analyze and define use cases: frequency regulation, peak shaving, energy shifting, backup power, and grid support. Support innovative initiatives related to hybrid plant operation and digital asset management Qualifications and Skills: Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, (electrical or electronic is preferable) A master's degree in Sustainable Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering, or similar is highly valued. Certifications in EMS, BMS, power electronics, or grid integration are a plus. 10+ years of experience in energy sector projects, 6 plus years’ experience in the design and implementation of BESS as Project Engineer. Fluent in English (written and spoken), excellent communication, team leading, decision-making, innovation, focus on results, able to give and receive feedback. Proven ability to lead technical teams in multidisciplinary project environments. Advanced knowledge of BESS technologies, EMS/BMS architecture, bidirectional inverters, thermal systems, and grid compliance. Familiarity with applicable standards and regulations (e.g., NFPA, IEC, IEEE). Capex and Opex estimation. Advanced knowledge of the plant design process from the feasibility phase (conceptual design), development phase (Basic Design) and execution phase (For Construction Design) Knowledge of HV, MV and LV infrastructures and main equipment. This role requires frequent national & international travels.
