Senior Manager, Engineering - Heroku Data ServicesJoin Salesforce as a Senior Manager to lead multiple engineering teams within the Heroku Data Services organization, reporting to the Director of Software Engineering. Overview Heroku Data Services develops and operates managed datastore‑as‑a‑service products built on Postgres, Redis, and Apache Kafka, managing one of the largest collections of databases in the world. In this role you will be a strategic leader and technical participant, engaging in architecture discussions while building high‑performing engineering cultures and guiding distributed teams toward operational excellence. Provide line management for multiple engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, career development, and retention Participate in technical discussions, architecture reviews, and design decisions for database technologies, distributed systems, and operational automation Facilitate sprint planning, refinement, retrospectives, and continuous improvement as an Agile/Scrum practitioner Collaborate with Product Management and cross‑functional leaders to deliver shared roadmaps and business goals Oversee on‑call rotations, operational readiness, deployment automation, and incident response best practices Champion code quality, maintainability, testing practices, and technical documentation across teams 7+ years of software engineering experience with hands‑on technical contributions ~3+ years managing software engineering teams with a track record of building high‑performing cultures ~Proven Agile/Scrum Master experience or project management experience ~ Strong engineering background with database technologies (Postgres, Redis, Apache Kafka, or similar) ~ Proficiency in object‑oriented programming languages (Ruby, Go, or Python) ~ Experience with AWS infrastructure and automated testing frameworks ~ Background in site reliability engineering (SRE) or DevOps practices Experience with Platform‑as‑a‑Service (PaaS) or Database‑as‑a‑Service (DBaaS) environments Experience designing and managing services for stateful applications at scale Salesforce is a recognised Disability Confident member under the UK Government Disability Confident employer scheme and is committed to providing an inclusive recruitment process.
