Sr. Systems Engineer, Managed OperationsAmazon Web Services (AWS) is launching the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC). We seek experienced senior systems engineers to lead automation and operations teams, delivering highly available services such as EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock to EU customers.ResponsibilitiesOversee ESC launch in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams.Build and lead operations and development teams focused on high‑availability AWS services.Improve day‑to‑day operations, ensuring availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency.Participate in on‑call rotations to resolve out‑of‑hours incidents.Influence evolution of AWS services and technology for EU customers.Eligibility RequirementsFluency in written and spoken English.National of an EU member state and residing in the EU.Relocation support available within the EU.Participation in an on‑call rota.Basic QualificationsNational of an EU member state.Deep systems engineering experience with hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.Proficient scripting in Bash, Python, or Ruby.Expertise in Linux and networking, ability to conduct diagnostics, implement preventive measures, and resolve complex issues.Experience in root‑cause analysis, performance optimization, and monitoring for mission‑critical systems.Skilled at creating and improving standard operating procedures and driving operational best practices.Preferred QualificationsLed complex, cross‑functional initiatives across multiple teams.Influenced stakeholders without direct authority.Mentored and developed engineering teams.Operated 24x7 high‑availability, distributed software applications, and performed performance tuning.Supported services in AWS or other cloud environments.Proficient with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar).About AWSAmazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive cloud platform.
