HPC Lead Solution Architect – Migration ProgrammeWe are delivering a large-scale, complex migration programme involving high performance computing (HPC), machine learning workloads, automation, compute, and storage. We are looking for an HPC Lead Solution Architect to own the overall technical strategy for the HPC landscape, act as the bridge between multiple engineering and stakeholder teams, and ensure scalable, performant, secure solutions. You will be the key architectural authority for HPC within the programme, with proven experience delivering large-scale HPC projects in demanding, production environments.Key ResponsibilitiesDefine and own the end-to-end strategy architecture for the migration, including compute, scheduling, storage, networking, and integration with ML platforms.Translate business and scientific requirements into scalable HPC designs and reference architectures.Evaluate and select technologies and patterns (e.g. on-prem, hybrid or cloud HPC, schedulers, containerisation, accelerators/GPUs).Ensure designs meet requirements around performance, resilience, capacity, security, and cost.Technical Leadership & DeliveryLead HPC architecture workstreams across the migration programme, from discovery and design through to delivery and optimisation.Work closely with HPC, Machine Learning, Automation, Compute, and Storage teams to ensure designs are implementable and aligned.Provide hands‑on guidance and technical oversight during build, test, and cut‑over phases.Identify and manage technical risks, issues, and trade‑offs, drive resolution across teams.Stakeholder Management & CommunicationAct as the primary HPC architectural contact for programme leadership, product owners, engineering leads, and external partners.Communicate complex technical topics to non‑technical stakeholders in a clear, outcome‑focused way.Create and maintain architecture documentation, diagrams, and decision records.Governance & Best PracticeDefine and champion HPC architecture standards, patterns, and best practices across the programme.Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, and compliance guidelines.Support capacity planning, performance testing, and benchmarking strategies for the new platform.Required Experience & SkillsTechnicalProven experience leading large-scale HPC projects (designing and delivering HPC platforms or major migrations).Strong understanding of HPC architectures, including:MPI, distributed computing, and parallel programming concepts.GPU / accelerator‑based workloads and optimisation.High‑performance storage (e.g. Lustre, GPFS/Spectrum Scale, BeeGFS, or similar).Experience with Machine Learning / AI workloads running on HPC or GPU infrastructure.Familiarity with automation and infrastructure‑as‑code (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, CI/CD for infrastructure).Strong knowledge of Linux in HPC environments.Experience with cloud or hybrid HPC (AWS, Azure, GCP, or other cloud providers) is highly desirable.Track record in a Solution Architect, Lead Architect, or Technical Lead role on complex programmes.Experience working across multiple domains: HPC, ML/AI platforms, Compute, Storage, Networking, and Security.Strong solution design skills, including non‑functional requirements (performance, scalability, observability, DR).Comfortable working in large, multi‑team environments (e.g. SAFe / agile at scale / matrix organisations).Seniority LevelMid‑Senior levelEmployment TypeContractJob FunctionConsulting#J-18808-Ljbffr
