The Environment Set Dressing Department
The Environment Set Dressing department is responsible for creating impressive environments with manual and procedural dressings. Our artists use cutting-edge technology to distribute and grow assets and vegetation, filling the environment and improving the narrative context of the sequence. All content is gathered and optimized for each shot before delivering to Lighting and Compositing departments.
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Artist to join our Environment Set Dressing department. As a Lead, you will be responsible for guiding artists in processes such as asset publication, location assembling process, set dressing per sequence, shot construction, optimization, rendering, publication, and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Artistic Leadership
- Provide artistic feedback to team members in line with the Supervisor and Production Designer's guidance.
- Complex Location Building
- Build outstanding complex locations with optimal usage of assets and handle complex scenes when required.
- Shot Framing and Composition
- Improve shot framing per camera, demonstrating strong image composition skills.
- Team Management
- Lead the team, providing support, guidance, and instruction in areas that contribute to their artistic and professional growth.
- Ensure all assets follow quality standards and artistic direction, and deadlines are achieved.
- Delegate and assign tasks to artists according to their skills.
- Technical Expertise
- Develop, test, and propose technical improvements and solutions inside and outside the department, using technical and artistic knowledge.
- Debug and troubleshoot scenes issues and help team members with problems they encounter.
- Stay up-to-date with current technology trends and tools (hardware and software) that best suit the production and the company.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional experience in VFX or animation industries.
- At least 1 year of experience as a Lead in the animation industry.
- Self-sufficiency in working on technical and artistic duties.
- Efficient use of assets in constructing complex but feasible locations.
- Exceptional artistic knowledge and ability to share it.
- Experience with Houdini USD scattering system and procedural dressing.
- Knowledge of Z Brush is desirable.
- Exceptional technical knowledge and ability to share it.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of other departments and functions as well as the feature animation pipeline.
- Programming knowledge (Python, VEX) is desired but not required.
- Advanced English level.
- Spanish oral and written is desirable.
