Design Systems Junior Designer

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Junior Designer, Design Systems to join our team at Dow Jones & Company, Inc. As a key member of our Design Systems team, you will play a critical role in creating and maintaining our design ecosystem, ensuring consistency and scalability across our products.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with our Design System team to design and develop reusable components, ensuring they are accessible, intuitive, and meet our brand standards.
  2. Work closely with Experience Architects, Experience Designers, and Design Technologists to design and update components, ensuring seamless integration with our design system.
  3. Produce detailed hand-off documentation for development, ensuring a smooth transition from design to development.
  4. Contribute to the creation of visual patterns and guidelines, ensuring consistency across our products.
  5. Explore and validate solutions through prototyping and user testing, ensuring our designs meet the needs of our audience.
  6. Collaborate with our Accessibility Lead to ensure our design system meets accessibility standards.
  7. Contribute to the design team's culture through collaboration, feedback, and process iteration.
  8. Independently deliver on projects and work with others on teams, ensuring timely and high-quality results.

Requirements

  1. Minimum 0-1 years of experience in a similar role.
  2. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  3. Strong grasp of UI, HCI, and UX principles.
  4. Understanding of best practices for mobile, web-based, and responsive design.
  5. Experience with component-based design and design systems.
  6. Familiarity with G-suite products and experience with professional collaboration tools such as Jira, Miro, Confluence, and Airtable.
  7. Experience working with Figma.
  8. A strong portfolio that demonstrates your experience and UX skills, illustrating step-by-step solutions for features.
  9. A portfolio that displays expertise using design systems and a demonstrated ability to think through end-to-end solutions with a strong user-centered approach.
  10. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience in the design of News or Financial Services.
  2. Familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards and compliance.
