The role of the Student Engagement Assistant is designed to support the Student Life department in various capacities, particularly in event planning and student engagement initiatives. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing the administrative aspects of Student Life events, projects, and activities, which include maintaining sign-up lists, sending communications, managing reservations, and processing payments.
This position will play a crucial role in enhancing the department's cultural programming and event coordination, facilitating direct interactions with students, especially with the increasing number of student leadership roles. The Student Engagement Assistant will also handle administrative tasks and collaborate with the Academic Department, the city, and diverse groups of incoming students.
The primary objective is to streamline the responsibilities of the department through effective administrative support, event management, and daily operations as the student population continues to grow and diversify each semester.
Required Qualifications
Education
● Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Higher Education, Social Sciences, Tourism, Cultural Management, or Public Relations.
Experience
● Familiarity with American higher education systems, ideally through study abroad programs or other international educational experiences.
● Proven experience in event planning and management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Proficiency in both Spanish and English (written and spoken).
● Strong transcultural and interpersonal communication skills.
● Understanding of student development issues in higher education and challenges related to study abroad.
● Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
● Advanced proficiency in media production software (e.g., Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva) as well as Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
● Competence in capturing and editing video and photographic content during events.
● Strong leadership skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently generate innovative ideas.
● Experience in organizing and executing socio-cultural and academic events for large groups.
Preferred Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Education, Tourism, Cultural Management, Public Relations, Cultural Studies, or related fields is preferred.
Additional Preferred Experience
● Experience in study abroad programs, international exchange, student services, or residential education.
Additional Skills and Knowledge
Candidates should be adept in quality data collection to ensure the accuracy and integrity of information within NYU systems, adhering to data privacy and security protocols to comply with legal and institutional standards.
