Chief Officer/1st Mate

This is a rotational Chief Officer position on a 60 meter explorer yacht with a worldwide itinerary. We are seeking a highly experienced candidate with a strong background in both commercial shipping and yachting.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the deck crew management team, including the bosun
- Develop and execute passage plans
- Communicate effectively with agents and other stakeholders
- Monitor and maintain planned maintenance schedules
- Assist the captain in operational aspects
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of COLREGs and passenger ship safety standards. Experience with pods and DP systems is a major plus, as is strong maneuvering experience. The ability to demonstrate these skills from previous vessels is essential.
We carry out light water sports and fishing activities, and the vessel will enter polar regions next year. An advanced polar certificate would be an advantage, but not a requirement at this stage. The successful candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and have a good understanding of general AV and IT systems.
The bridge is continuously manned at sea 24 hours a day by officers, including the captain. Strong watchkeeping and diligence are required at all times. We seek a candidate who is calm and relaxed, yet well-spoken and professionally presented. The vessel has a relaxed environment underpinned by strong procedures, and safety is of utmost importance.
This position is a shared cabin arrangement on board, and the successful candidate will be starting in November to relieve the current Chief Officer.
