Laboratory Technician for Smart Nano-Bio-Devices Research Group

Job Description:
The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technician to join the Smart Nano-Bio-Devices Research Group. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for providing scientific support to the research activities of the group, focusing on the use of nanoparticles, nanosystems, and nanomotors in bioengineering, biotechnological, and biomedical applications.
Main Responsibilities:
- Synthesize micro- and nanoparticles (inorganic and organic) and provide support to group members in this process.
- Assist with projects related to 3D printing and maintain analytical and characterization tools, taking responsibility for some equipment based on your skills.
- Support sample preparation and characterization using microscopy techniques such as SEM and TEM.
- Ensure lab organization, ordering of reagents and equipment, and coordinate with other technicians and the Group Leader.
- Introduce new lab members to facilities and lab rules, manage equipment reservation calendars, and train new users in equipment and lab procedures.
- Be responsible for on-boarding and check-out of group members, as well as managing lab spaces and computers.
- Serve as a contact person between researchers and various departments, including IT, Core Facilities, Health & Safety, Finances, and Communications.
- Ensure lab safety and maintain a safe working environment.
Requirements:
- Degree in chemistry, nanoscience and nanotechnology, nanomaterials, chemistry biomedical engineering, or similar.
- Knowledge in synthesis of nanoparticles (inorganic or organic) and characterization techniques (e.g., DLS, Z-potential, spectroscopy techniques).
- Competencies and skills: communication, teamwork and collaboration, commitment, proactivity, integrity, critical and analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and organizational skills in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
- High level of English.
Advantageous:
- Experience as a Lab Technician supporting group members in international labs.
- Experience in electronic microscopy (such as SEM, TEM).
Working Conditions:
Full-time 12-month contract with measures to reconcile work and family life, including maternity and paternity leave, flexible schedule working hours, 23 paid holidays, and 9 leave days for personal matters.
