THE POSITION
The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) is seeking a highly motivated Junior Group Leader in Quantitative Cell Biology to join our team. The successful candidate will lead a research group focused on addressing fundamental questions in cell biology using multidisciplinary approaches, aiming to bridge scales from molecules to organelles, cells, tissues, or organisms. We welcome applications in areas that synergise with our current research or broaden its scope into new areas, such as evolutionary cell biology or structural cell biology. The newly established group will receive generous core-funding and will join the Quantitative Cell Biology Program, with the option of a joint affiliation with another BIST Program. Translational aspects will be positively considered but do not have to be the primary research aim.
THE INSTITUTE
The BIST is a core-funded interdisciplinary institute with strengths in genomics, systems, computational, cell, and molecular biology. It is located at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) with six other research institutes, including the newly created Outstation of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). The BIST consists of 400 scientists and is organised into five research programmes supported by high-end core technologies covering proteomics, genomics, bioinformatics, microscopy, FACs, iPSCs, and organoids, and protein expression, and with access to the cryo-electron microscopy facility at the ALBA synchrotron.
THE OFFER
We offer a Junior Group Leader position with a 5-year contract renewable for a total of 9 years, subject to successful external peer review, and structural funding to cover salaries and consumables for up to three people depending on their qualifications.
