About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Web Developer to join our team at the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST). The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing sophisticated interfaces created by a UX/UI designer.

The front-end will integrate with a back-end system that manages discovery and sharing of biomedical data. The selected candidate will contribute to the development of a platform that enables scientists to access and query biomedical data generated by research and healthcare institutions worldwide, while aligning with data privacy regulations.

The position provides an opportunity to work on world-class collaborative scientific projects. The candidate will join a multidisciplinary team at the European Genome-phenome Archive (EGA) and work closely with bioinformaticians, data curators, web designers, and other developers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing front-end interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Working with REST APIs for application and services integration
  • Experience with containerization technology (such as Docker)
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality results

Requirements

  • Strong background in Web frontend (HTML, CSS, JS)
  • Experience with JavaScript Frameworks (React/Angular/Vue)
  • Understanding of server-side aspects (including web security)
  • Experience with containerization technology (such as Docker)

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Python (including async programming)
  • Knowledge of querying databases (SQL, ElasticSearch, MongoDB, Neo4J, etc.)
  • Experience with unit testing and E2E testing using Cypress
