**Job Summary**
Spring Professional is seeking a highly experienced Research Director to lead the development of innovative electrical and electronic products for the construction, industrial, and utility sectors.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Establish and execute a comprehensive research strategy for one of five technology focus areas: sensors, controls, communications, analytics, or devices.
- Develop a long-term technology development roadmap for the selected focus area and advocate for its execution.
- Collaborate with business leaders and technologists to identify promising technologies and plan new technology initiatives (NTIs) to mature them.
- Propose NTIs to senior management, weighing market opportunity against risk.
- Ensure quality research by selecting and managing research staff contributors to NTIs.
- Set milestones, track progress, and report periodically, managing delays and disruptions.
- Document and manage peer review requirements.
- Communicate research results to stakeholders, product, and financial organizations, placing them within the context of the greater research roadmap.
- Advise on follow-on research requirements.
- Oversee technology transfer and ensure timely integration of technology into product lines throughout the NPD process.
**Requirements**
- 10+ years of experience in industrial or academic research.
- 10+ years of experience leading technology development teams.
- Publishing and/or patent record demonstrating significant technical depth and experience.
- Ability to think strategically about research in an industrial setting.
- Experience planning and executing research projects.
- Outstanding critical thinking skills.
- A penchant for creative problem-solving.
- Effective communication of complex technical issues to diverse audiences.
**Education**
- M.S. (Ph.D. preferred) in electrical engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related field.
