Public Safety Officer

The Public Safety Officer provides a visible security presence to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and staff at Touro Hospital.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct routine security patrols of the hospital campus, both internal and external, to maintain crowd control and order.
- Perform safety and equipment inspections to ensure the hospital's security systems are functioning properly.
- Provide information and assistance to patients, visitors, staff, and the general public.
- Respond to all calls for assistance immediately, unless involved in or responding to an emergency situation.
- Document details on incident reports as needed.
- Operate security screening equipment, access control systems, video security, and intrusion detection systems.
- Report and control unauthorized or suspicious persons, unsafe conditions, or other irregularities.
- Complete required paperwork to account for all security-related actions.
- Follow the Hospital's Public Safety Department Firearms policy and the Use of Force policy.
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of appropriate work experience.
- 1 year of directly related experience (security, law enforcement, military).
- Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Certificate (CPI, NCI-CPI) - Crisis Prevention Institute.
- Defensive Driving Certification - Defensive Driving Certification Issuer.
- Annual Baton Training.
- Ability to transport patients as required.
- Willingness to be trained, skilled, and proficient with handcuffs, baton, OC spray, and restraining.
- Ability to pass the LCMC Active Shooter Course (practical) annually.
