Transforming Diabetes Care with Data Engineering

At Roche, we're pushing the boundaries of healthcare innovation, and we're looking for a talented Data Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Diabetes Management group, you'll play a crucial role in developing and maintaining our data & analytics platform, ensuring FAIR principles are achieved.

As a Data Engineer, you'll work closely with data stakeholders to understand their needs and develop data pipelines, data products, and data services that meet their requirements. You'll drive automation wherever possible, ensuring that our data platform is efficient, scalable, and secure.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building and maintaining the data & analytics platform, ensuring FAIR principles are achieved
  • Assembling large and complex datasets within the platform and making them available for different purposes and stakeholders
  • Designing and implementing automated testing of data pipelines and orchestrations
  • Defining and implementing data models and data products to provide access to data for final stakeholders
  • Implementing tools and processes to access, manage, and work with data for reporting, advanced analytics, and evidence generation teams
  • Collaborating with data team members to define data quality rules and KPIs for monitoring and exception alerts
  • Diagnosing and triaging infrastructure problems and outages related to the data & analytics platform

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Math, Statistics, Engineering, or equivalent training
  • At least 3 years of professional experience working with large-scale data platforms in Data Operations or Data Engineering, using agile methodologies
  • Proficiency in implementing data pipelines (e.g., Pyspark, Spark SQL, Scala), orchestration tools/services (e.g., Airflow, Data Factory), and testing frameworks
  • Experience with databases (columnar, NoSQL, and relational databases: Redshift, DynamoDB, Aurora, Postgres, and/or Snowflake), data modeling, and data management tools (Hive, Jupiter, Zeppelin, and/or Databricks)
  • Experience with one of the main cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) with Big Data services (EMR, Databricks, Synapse, HDInsight, Kinesis, etc.)
  • Familiarity with orchestration, automation, integration, and continuous delivery frameworks such as Jenkins or Streamsets
  • Proficiency with software engineering best practices, such as unit testing and integration testing, and software development tools, such as IDE, Maven, Git, Docker, among others

Bonus skills include experience with reporting systems and visualization tools (e.g., Quicksight, Superset; optional: Tableau, Looker), DevOps, DataOps, and MLOps, security and privacy regulations (GDPR, HIPAA), and knowledge on the Health Industry.
