Job Description

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Backend Developer to join our growing Engine team.

The Engine team is responsible for developing and maintaining the core functionality of our platform, including recipe execution, data processing, and system integration.

As a Senior Backend Developer, you will be responsible for:

  1. Designing, developing, and maintaining complex backend applications using Ruby and Rails.
  2. Improving the execution engine of custom third-party code, including Ruby DSL, isolation, and performance optimization.
  3. Writing well-designed, testable, and efficient code in Ruby and Go.
  4. Integrating data storage solutions, including Postgres, Redis, S3, DynamoDB, Kafka, and ClickHouse.
  5. Contributing to all phases of the development lifecycle, including code reviews and testing.
  6. Evaluating and proposing improvements to existing systems.
  7. Identifying bottlenecks and bugs, and devising solutions to these problems.
  8. Helping maintain code quality, organization, and automation.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Strong experience developing, shipping, and maintaining Ruby and Rails applications (7+ years).
  • Vast knowledge of Ruby, including experience with intensive backend applications.
  • Excellent debugging, analytical, problem-solving, and social skills.
  • Knowledge of basic data structures and algorithms and how they are used.
  • Good understanding of all building blocks of large web applications, including databases, load balancers, application servers, message brokers, caching, monitoring, etc.
  • Good understanding of network protocols and stacks.
  • Good understanding of DB technologies, including classic databases and modern no-SQL.
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject.
Soft Skills

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Ready to work remotely with teams distributed across the world and timezones.
  • Fluent in spoken English.
Optional Requirements

While not required, experience in the following areas would be a plus:

  • Developing DSLs in Ruby.
  • Background in C/C++/Linux or other system programming.
  • Go.
  • Deep knowledge of physical DB design.
  • Experience of working with Docker and other isolation technologies.
  • Experience of working with public cloud infrastructure providers (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud).
  • Experience in related fields (DevOps, ML, DBA, Enterprise applications, etc).
  • Experience in building/deploying data processing pipelines.
  • Experience of working with third-party REST APIs at scale.
