About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Scientific Coordinator to join our Life Sciences Department at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the management and coordination of research projects in the biomedical field, focusing on sensitive data.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of research projects and activities related to sensitive data management and ethics.
- Act as a bridge between researchers and operations teams to ensure compliance with regulations and maintain regular interactions with Principal Investigators.
- Evaluate and ensure the ethics, safety, privacy, and GDPR conditions for sensitive biomedical data in research projects.
- Prepare work package reports and project proposals for projects involving sensitive data management.
- Develop strategic project plans and manage technical aspects of key initiatives.
- Negotiate, supervise, and draft contracts for data transfer agreements.
- Provide training on ethics, legal, and security requirements for researchers handling sensitive data.
Requirements
- Education
- University Degree in health science, IT, or engineering.
- PhD in the biomedical area.
- Specific training in Project Management or equivalent experience.
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Experience in managing projects in the Bioinformatics area.
- At least three years' experience in research project management.
- Detailed knowledge of EU GDPR regulations and data processing in biomedical research projects.
- Familiarity with academic environments and their specific needs.
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Experience in writing and coordinating national and international research projects in the biomedical area.
- Proven ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Project management skills: reporting, documenting, and planning.
- Excellent command of tools for preparing well-structured documents and presentations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish (Catalan is a plus).
- Competences
- Understanding of high-level concepts in the biomedical/bioinformatics sector.
- Excellent time management and self-organisation skills.
- Ability to take initiative, propose actions, prioritise tasks, and work under deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and within a team, taking ownership of own projects.

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is a leading international research center in the field of advanced computing and has established itself as one of the best places to work in Spain. We offer a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, flexible working hours, an extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and support for relocation procedures.
Location and Contract Details
This full-time contract will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department. The position duration is open-ended due to the technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration. Holidays include 23 paid vacation days plus December 24th and 31st per our collective agreement. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience according to the cost of living in Barcelona. Starting date is October 1st, 2023.
