Celtarys Research is a pioneering early stage biotech company based in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. We specialize in developing and commercializing innovative chemical tools to enhance drug discovery.

We are seeking a highly skilled Medicinal Chemist – Principal Scientist with a strong background in organic synthesis and molecular design. The ideal candidate will have expertise in designing and executing research projects for the development of fluorescent probes and other bioactive compounds.

About the Role

This is a challenging opportunity for a motivated professional to join our multidisciplinary team as a Principal Scientist. As a key member of our chemistry department, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating research projects, managing client requests, and staying up-to-date with state-of-the-art enabling technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute research projects for the development of fluorescent probes and other bioactive polyfunctional compounds
  • Manage projects assigned and clients' scientific requests
  • Stay current with advances in molecular design and organic synthesis (e.g., NMR, HPLC, mass spectrometry)
  • Collaborate with colleagues locally and throughout our collaborating research groups, companies, and entities
  • Present results internally to discuss possible issues, solutions, and alternatives

Requirements

We are looking for a highly qualified individual with the following qualifications:

  • PhD in Medicinal Chemistry or a related field
  • More than 2 years' experience as a post-doc
  • Extensive knowledge of medicinal chemistry basics and approaches to modify molecule structures
  • Understanding of molecule/target interaction principles and modes
  • Deep understanding of biological data related to compounds developed
  • Independent design of new molecules able to interact with specific targets of interest
  • Organic synthesis: full autonomy in design and realization of complex multip-step syntheses
  • Strong knowledge of biomolecules and small molecules purification and characterization approaches
  • Strong independence, problem-solving, troubleshooting skills, and proven ability to lead research projects
