Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of materials and processes for antenna payloads, hybrids components, and antennas/active antennas manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with engineering harness department and EEE requirements.
  • Translate customer requirements into technical specifications and define deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain materials and processes deliverables for definition dossier, including product assessments, replacement strategies, and lifecycle assessments.
  • Ensure environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance and identify objectives, indicators, and gates to ensure control and visibility.
  • General Materials and Processes Project Activities:
  1. Support payload program manager in subcontractor RFP process, reviewing statements of compliance against program materials and processes requirements.
  2. Support payload program manager in updating payload statement of compliance regarding materials and processes requirements.
  3. Participate in audits and quality assessments as needed throughout the project lifecycle for specific materials and processes issues.
  4. Prepare and maintain payload documentation, including DML, DMPL, and DPL.
  5. Review and approve subcontractor documentation, including DML, DMPL, and DPL, at different project milestones.
  6. Participate in major design reviews with customers.
  7. Prepare validation and qualification plans and reports in collaboration with other colleagues, related to materials and processes for in-house activities.
  8. Participate in subcontractor major design reviews, including facility visits if needed.
  9. Process requests for critical materials and processes items from subcontractors in step 1 (review and approval of qualification/validation/verification) and step 2 (review of report).
  10. Review criticality control and configuration control plans from subcontractors.
  11. Review request for design changes and request for waivers from subcontractors related to materials and processes.
  12. Support payload program manager in preparation of payload request for design changes and request for waivers related to materials and processes.
  13. Prepare criticality analysis on materials and processes versus radiation.
  14. Prepare payload criticality control and configuration control plans and support cleanliness and contamination control activities during payload development.
  15. Support the project in resolving non-conformance reports related to materials and processes.
  16. Analyze alerts related to materials and processes and their impact on the project.

Materials and Processes Project Activities in the Area of Electronics/Electrical:

  1. Follow up materials and processes activities related to electronic/electrical parts assemblies (SMT, feed-through, etc.) for both in-house and subcontractors, including process verification, assembly qualification, material validation, and mechanical part qualification.
  2. Demonstrate compliance with ECSS-Q-ST-70 series whenever applicable.
  3. Provide and manage materials and processes expertise (as MPPE and through technical departments) in the area of RF hybrid circuits according to ECSS-Q-ST-60-05C, including:
  • Wire bonding processes.
  • Die attach processes for MMIC assemblies.
  • Eutectic soldering for high-power applications.
  • Hermetic sealing processes.
  • Support to high-temperature interface fixture preparation.
Provide materials and processes expertise in other areas (but not limited to).

Required Background:

  • Master's engineer or master's sciences degree with proven experience in the scope of description and in manufacturing processes in the space perimeter.
  • Good knowledge and experience of methodologies for processes qualification.
  • Able to manage new supplier qualifications.
  • Previously led problem-solving activities, performed audits and reviews at supplier level, and analyzed risks.
  • Experience in impact analysis (materials and processes).
  • Good knowledge and experience on ESA, EN9100, and quality regulations.
  • Good knowledge and experience in lean concepts and tools.
  • Knowledge of European rules with regard to REACH legal issues and awareness of health and safety issues.

You will also have experience/knowledge in:

  • Management of R&D studies projects.
  • Testing and technology laboratories (materials analysis and processes).
  • Project management.

Basic Skills:

  • Recognized for flexibility, interpersonal skills, ability to find solutions, and ability to face pressure.
  • A good level of English and Spanish is required for this position. Other languages are also appreciated.
  • Availability for very frequent traveling is required.
