Senior Research Engineer on Research Infrastructures for Precision Medicine Projects

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Engineer to join our team at Sebibc, where you will play a key role in developing and maintaining research infrastructures for precision medicine projects. As a Senior Research Engineer, you will be responsible for sharing responsibilities on the development of flagship projects, developing and documenting software for the integration and analysis of biological data, and participating in relevant technical activities within our platforms and communities.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and Maintain Research Infrastructures
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of research infrastructures for precision medicine projects, including the European Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) and the EUropean federation for CAncer IMages (EUCAIM).
- Develop and document software for the integration and analysis of biological data, following the guidelines of ELIXIR.
- Participate in Technical Activities
- Participate in relevant technical activities within our platforms and communities, including ELIXIR platforms, communities, and focus groups.
- Contribute to supervising junior members at our research units.
- Education
- BSc or MSc in bioinformatics, computational biology, or computer sciences with significant bioinformatics experience.
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- At least 3 years of professional experience with a similar role.
- Experience with software life cycle involving repositories, continuous integration, and public releases using software ecosystem repositories.
- Experience in cloud deployments, data management APIs, and bioinformatics data sources and formats.
- Experience in query building and optimization in SQL and NoSQL ecosystems.
- Experience with advanced software packaging procedures and programming languages such as C++, Perl, Python, PHP, and Java.
- Vast experience working with Unix/Linux systems and data management.
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Experience in using, generating, and developing reproducible recipes for software containers and designing software infrastructure deployment techniques.
- Experience in scientific workflow engines and database design and management.
- Fluency in English written and spoken, and at least basic knowledge of Spanish.
- Competences
- Ability to understand scientific literature and software documentation.
- Ability to communicate scientific results and work independently.
- Ability to represent the team in international project meetings and work under pressure with strict deadlines.
- The position will be located at Sebibc within our Life Sciences Department.

- Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration.
- Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement.
