Position Overview

As a Senior Accounting Associate in our Madrid office, you will support our Senior Accountant in managing the daily accounting functions related to development, construction, and operational energy projects, as well as corporate accounting responsibilities in Spain. This role involves collaboration with our local Controller in Madrid and the Accounting, Tax, and Treasury teams based in Chicago, USA.

Your primary responsibilities will include assisting with the monthly closing of financial records for various accounting entities tied to these projects, as well as providing support for holding companies with subsidiary electric generation projects at different stages of development and operation.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive self-starter, highly organized, and possess strong computer skills. You should be able to manage multiple tasks effectively and embrace the opportunity to tackle new challenges. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply, although prior experience is not mandatory; a foundational knowledge of accounting is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements.
  • Support the development of project workbooks that underpin balance sheets and income statements.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all general ledger entries.
  • Contribute to annual audit processes.
  • Help coordinate treasury projects, banking activities, and cash flow analyses.
  • Monitor tax compliance and accounting operations within the Invenergy group globally, with a particular emphasis on Spain.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of monthly and quarterly tax returns (VAT and Withholding Tax) in Spain.
  • Support the calculation and provision of Corporate Income Tax in Spain.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of Corporate Income Tax returns and periodic self-assessments in Spain.
  • Contribute to various administrative tasks as needed.
  • Engage in additional projects as assigned.

Experience and Skills

  • 0-3 years of relevant experience.
  • A degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or Law.
  • Basic understanding of IFRS and/or Spanish GAAP.
  • Specialization in IFRS or USGAAP is a plus but not essential.
  • Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) is advantageous but not required.
  • Intermediate proficiency in English is preferred.
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications is required.
