Fisheries Specialist

Job Title: Fishery Officer

Organizational Setting:

The Fisheries and Aquaculture Division (NFI) works with Members and partners to transform aquatic systems and promote the responsible and sustainable management of aquatic food systems.

Key Functions:

• Researches, analyses and provides access to fisheries and aquaculture technical data and information.
• Produces a variety of technical data, statistics, information and reports.
• Provides technical, statistical, and/or analytical services on various studies and assessments.
• Participates in the development of improved/updated technical tools, methodologies, and databases.
• Collaborates in capacity development activities within Members.
• Promotes knowledge sharing and best practices at international meetings.
• Supports resource mobilization activities.

Specific Functions:

• Contributes to the preparation and implementation of the GFCM work programme.
• Provides technical support to the work of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Fisheries.
• Ensures the compilation of technical elements in support of fisheries management advice.
• Contributes to analysing information on Mediterranean fisheries and produces reports.
• Represents the Organization at relevant international meetings and conferences.

Requirements:

• Advanced university degree in fisheries sciences, marine sciences or a related field.
• Five years of relevant experience in quantitative analysis and assessment of wild marine fish stocks.
• Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another FAO official language.
