Senior 3D Character Artist Role

At Gameloft, we're seeking a highly skilled Senior 3D Character Artist to join our team in Montreal. As a key member of our Dungeons & Dragons PC/Console video game project, you'll be responsible for creating high-quality characters and creatures that exceed our visual targets and stylistically consistent with our artistic direction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create high-quality characters and creatures using sculpt, model, UV, texture, and material creation techniques.
  • Deliver excellent translations of characters while considering game design constraints and respecting a strong artistic direction.
  • Work closely with the Lead 3D Character Artist to ensure the visual target is always exceeded and stylistically consistent.
  • Coordinate with tools and technology teams to develop necessary solutions for creating the best characters possible.
  • Review assets to make certain that they satisfy their intended design and are ready for rigging and animation.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines such as Design, Concept Art, Animation, Tech Art, and VFX to ensure that characters are fully realized.
  • Verify the quality of assets in the game, and make improvements where necessary to fit technical constraints, performance targets, and artistic direction.
  • Ensure the timely completion of assets on style and at the desired quality bar.
  • Mentor Intermediate and Junior 3D Character Artists by providing guidance and feedback.

Requirements:
  • 6+ years of experience as a Character Artist
  • High-quality portfolio of gamedev-relevant 3D Character Art, preferably with an emphasis on stylization.
  • Able to interpret and follow concepts and reference material to create clean, detailed, and accurate 3D Character models.
  • An excellent understanding of game mechanics related to characters, objects, and environments.
  • Experience integrating 3D assets into industry-leading game engines such as Unity or Unreal (Unity experience is a desired plus).
  • High proficiency in modeling programs such as 3DSMAX, Maya, Blender, Zbrush, and texture/material authoring tools such as Photoshop and Substance.
  • Excellent high and low poly modeling skills, as well as demonstrable skill with texture and shader creation within a PBR pipeline.
  • Attention to detail for both aesthetic and technical quality.
  • Deep knowledge of human and animal anatomy.
  • Mastery of form, shape, structure, and silhouette in regard to modeling.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively coordinate with every department of a game development team.
  • Ability to be resourceful and come up with creative solutions.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Educated on the latest trends and have a strong perspective on how they relate to our current and future projects.
