Job Description

As a Senior QA Engineer at Backbase, you will have the opportunity to take a lead role in the development of our digital banking platform, focusing on delivering high-quality results.

You will be responsible for promoting quality within the team, aligning with the QA Guild, and ensuring that quality solutions are delivered throughout the product development cycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create initial test strategies for products, subsystems, or projects based on the overall Test Strategy from QA Guild.
  • Present and justify test strategies and decisions to clients and stakeholders.
  • Conduct test plans and define test designs for complex technological concepts.
  • Develop and execute manual and automated tests covering functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Ensure automation testing for web and mobile solutions aligns with standardized tools and languages introduced by the QA Guild.
  • Act as an agile team member, participating in ceremonies and working closely with the product owner and team members.
  • Drive discussions with clients and stakeholders, leveraging test evidence, defect metrics, and reporting on the QA process.
  • Hold a strong testing and DevOps mindset to understand and work with tooling in environments and CI/CD.

Requirements:

  • 4-7 years of experience in a QA role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Sciences, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • English language proficiency, written and spoken.

Knowledge & Application:

You will be expected to:

  • Perform at a high level in your team, sharing knowledge with other QA Engineers, the team, and support channels.
  • Know multiple programming languages to create automated test cases in tools used by the organization.
  • Have advanced knowledge of main testing frameworks and a basic understanding of related frameworks.
  • Suggest, plan, and perform technical improvements related to QA.
  • Understand different testing levels and types, contributing to the Test Strategy of the organization.
  • Design tests using test methodologies, applying different testing types in alignment with acceptance criteria.
  • Write automated test cases in different testing levels, covering positive and negative scenarios, edge cases, and errors.
  • Contribute to the testing framework, common libraries, or other tooling of the QA Guild.
  • Be the go-to person for technical questions and issues.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in your discipline and industry.
  • Have the ability to write all kinds of tests, use all kinds of tools, and improve the overall quality of code and software.
  • Understand CI/CD phases and make major contributions to workflows/pipelines.
  • Act as an advocate for NFRs important for product readiness.
  • Advocate finding security vulnerabilities by executing simple security tests.
  • Use accessibility knowledge and tools to test the product for accessibility.
  • Contribute to the product's performance by creating performance tests or analyzing performance results.

Complexity & Problem Solving:

You will be expected to:

  • Provide workarounds and give clear feedback to the team on how to improve the product.
  • Be exposed to all capabilities of the Backbase Platform.
  • Understand all aspects of how the software is built, assembled, tested, and run in production.
  • Be capable of implementing and proposing improvements to existing tooling and processes for automated testing phases.

Collaboration & Interaction:

You will be expected to:

  • Be involved in product support and CS/RnD collaboration.
  • Be well-known in your chapter and become known in the guild by supporting guild initiatives.
  • Support other less senior QAs and pass knowledge.
  • Interact with stakeholders and support them with issues related to the team's capabilities.
  • Anticipate and communicate potential implementation issues in refinement sessions.
  • Report test results in a language understandable by technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Prioritize test scenarios execution based on risk, time, and expectations.
  • Review tasks critically and ensure they are appropriately sized for necessary testing activities.
  • Ensure tasks are prioritized correctly and dependencies are noted.
  • Identify when a ticket is not ready and challenge the PO/BA before planning work.
  • Help BAs and POs write clear tickets based on acceptance criteria.
  • Review automation code and provide comments to assist in improvements.
  • Have regular working sessions with engineers from other teams throughout the SDLC.
