Postdoctoral Researcher in Digital Media and Politics

About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) in the Computational Social Sciences Program. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing cutting-edge research on social media and public opinion using novel computational methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct original research on the impact of digital media use on political attitudes, cognitions, and behaviors.
- Coordinate and assist in data collection and analysis.
- Guide team members in applying computational methods to their grants proposals and research papers.
- Lead in writing grant proposal applications and co-authorship and lead authorship of research papers.
- Assist in team coordination and PhD supervision.
- Communicate project results in conferences and workshops.
- Organize expert workshops, conferences, and seminars.
Requirements
- PhD in the social sciences or computational (social) science.
- Experience in quantitative empirical analysis and computational methods, familiarity with at least one of the following: online experiments, machine learning, and text analysis, network analysis, agent-based modeling.
- Some experience in collecting online behavioral data via APIs, data donations, web-tracking.
- Some experience in analyzing and integrating large datasets from diverse sources (social media, web-browsing, survey).
- Programming skills and eagerness to work in multiple languages and code (e.g., R, Python), with different statistical software, packages, and notebook environments.
- Interest in researching social media use and public opinion, political communication, or comparative media research.
