Job Description

**About the Position**

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Researcher to join our team at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. As a Senior Researcher, you will be responsible for contributing to the development of high-resolution climate models and their scientific validation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of new high-resolution climate model configurations and their scientific validation
  • Run production experiments with the new model configurations
  • Contribute to project deliverables and reports
  • Analyze the impact of increased resolution on the representation of future ocean changes and their effects on land
  • Lead the scientific activities and reporting of the national project STREAM
  • Submit and execute supercomputing access proposals to ensure the feasibility of high-resolution simulations

Requirements

  • PhD in atmospheric science, applied mathematics, engineering, fluid dynamics, or a related field
  • Postdoctoral experience and a proven ability to prepare and submit manuscripts to peer-review journals
  • Demonstrated ability to develop experimental setups that address specific climate modeling problems
  • Experience in ocean/atmosphere modeling and handling climate model output
  • Programming skills in scripting languages (e.g., Python), data analysis and visualization software (e.g., NCO, R, Python, NCL)
  • Experience in handling large datasets and a minimum knowledge of NetCDF encoding
  • Experience in HPC and parallel computing (multi-threaded applications)

Additional Requirements

  • Interest and capacity in participating in the writing and leading of research and computing proposals
  • Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., git, svn, cvs)
  • Interest in tutoring and/or advising master and PhD students

Competencies

  • Fluency in spoken and written English, with fluency in other European languages valued
  • Highly collaborative spirit and ability to work as part of a large, strongly-coordinated team

Working Conditions

  • The position will be located at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center within the Earth Sciences Department
  • We offer a full-time contract with a competitive salary, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and support for relocation procedures
  • Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
  • Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
