Database Administrator Job Description

At Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), we're seeking a skilled Database Administrator to join our team. As a key member of our database team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our production and non-production databases. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining database health, performance, and security.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide first-level database administration support for our customer-facing and in-house applications.
  • Respond to and resolve database-related tasks and alerts, keeping clients and management informed of request status.
  • Monitor production and non-production database environments daily, addressing database health, performance, backups, jobs, storage, and other critical issues.
  • Participate in release meetings and execute database-related deployments.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Database Administrator to implement complex database projects and conduct research on advanced database technologies.
  • Review and create database-related documents, sharing knowledge with the DBA team.
  • Participate in on-call rotations during non-business hours.

Requirements:
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in database administration with commercial engines like Oracle and MS SQL Server, or open-source SQL engines like PostgreSQL and MySQL.
  • Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics.
  • Experience working with Linux.
  • Proficiency in shell scripting and automation.
  • Proven track record of troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
  • Skills in performance tuning and optimization using native tools.
  • Proficiency in database backup, restore, and recovery.
  • Knowledge of database High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options.
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, with emphasis on documentation.
  • Experience with cloud databases (Amazon EC2 or Microsoft Azure) or 'database as a service' (Amazon RDS/SimpleDB/DynamoDB or Microsoft SQL Azure) is a plus.
