About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Research Data Engineer to join our team at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center's Life Sciences Department. As a key member of our Health Data Research team, you will play a crucial role in collaborating with our INB/ELIXIR-ES unit to establish a new team focused on health data research.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement data processing pipelines to support our health data research initiatives.
- Develop and maintain data model transformations and standardization processes, including OMOP.
- Contribute to the development of a multi-modal distributed database and ensure its scalability and performance.
- Work with PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, and other technologies to design, implement, and test microservices.
- Integrate our developments with external APIs and ensure seamless data exchange.
- Develop and test core products and frameworks, and oversee the testing, logging, measuring, and alerting of deployed services.
- Monitor existing metrics, analyze data, and collaborate with other teams to identify and implement system and process improvements.
- Ensure high-quality data collection and optimal data usage across the team and research community.
- Oversee junior team members, ensuring proper execution of duties and alignment with business vision and objectives.
- Document and publish data and software under FAIR standards.
Requirements
- MSc in computer science, data science, or bioinformatics.
- Experience in data engineering methodologies, with proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Comfortable with container development using Docker and/or Kubernetes.
- Work experience in a collaborative software development environment (git, CI/CD, documentation, etc.).
- Additional knowledge and experience in biomedical research, good data management practices (FAIR data, data quality, etc.), and fluency in spoken and written English.
- Capacity to explore new technologies, good communication and presentation skills, and ability to work independently and within a team.
What We Offer
- A full-time contract (37.5h/week) with a good working environment, state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and support for relocation procedures.
- An open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration.
- 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement.
