The Opportunity

We are currently looking for a mid-senior backend software engineer to join our core team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our backend systems, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and performant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop high-quality backend systems using Java or Kotlin
  • Collaborate closely with our infrastructure team, customer success, and other development teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery
  • Ensure the platform runs smoothly, managing millions of measurements every day, by taking into account security, performance, and concurrency
  • Be involved in deep refactor of core components, rethinking models, extracting monolith functionalities into independent services, performance and scalability improving, query optimisations
  • Deploy changes in production using CI/CD pipelines, owning the whole lifecycle from pull request to production
  • Be accountable and proficient with the code the team writes, keeping it clean and simple
  • One day per sprint of two weeks is booked for free choices, trying to innovate with new technologies/tools/approaches to improve our products or methodologies

Requirements

  • Team player with good social skills and ability to work with people to solve problems together
  • Product mindset, understanding the pains and problems of the customer/user is crucial to build and deliver the best solution
  • Pragmatic, understanding the urgency and importance of the issue that you work on, balancing quality, performance, and time-to-market
  • Fluent in JVM languages (Java 8+, Kotlin)
  • Experience using Docker Containers and dockerizing micro-services
  • Experience using relational and/or non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, BigQuery)
  • Knowledge of SOLID principles and Clean Architecture
  • Familiarity with the testing pyramid
  • Fluent in English

Nice to Have

  • Experience in DDD and clean architecture
  • Experience in microservices patterns
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python and/or JavaScript
  • Knowledge of asynchronous, reactive programming principles and the functional programming paradigm
  • Experience using Cloud Native Infrastructure (lambda functions, buckets, managed services, etc.)
  • Experience in profiling (memory, cpu, I/O) and service metrics using monitoring tools
  • Knowledge of the Energy sector
